Symposium: Grassroots Mobilization to End Malaria: Integrating the care of the young infant

When: Friday 26 April 2024, 17:00-18:30 (CAT)
Where: Kigali Convention Centre, Room MH4
Organiser: Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal, Spain)

This symposium aims to create awareness of malaria prevalence in young infants and advocate for appropriate treatment. Malaria in young infants is often overlooked because this population is assumed to benefit from maternal protection and is generally excluded from clinical trials. As a result, there are currently no approved treatments for malaria for infants < 4.5 kg in body weight and available treatment guideline recommendations for patients < 5kg are not evidence-based.

The intention is for this symposium to act as a catalyst for a much-needed conversation on malaria in young infants, improving disease detection and prompting appropriate treatment.
