As a Senior Strategic Partnerships Officer at EDCTP, Ana Lúcia Weinberg was responsible for building and managing relationships with key public and private stakeholders. She worked closely with European EDCTP member countries and was responsible for facilitating the coordination of European national research programmes on infectious diseases. Ana Lúcia will be remembered by many as a passionate and compassionate person fully committed to building and fostering invaluable and sustainable partnerships for global health research. She was very devoted to her work at EDCTP and will be dearly missed by the broader EDCTP family and research community.
Ana Lúcia had over 15 years of experience in advocacy, partnership building, external relations, and communications for various international organisations. Before joining EDCTP in 2012 she worked as Programme Adviser, and Training and Communications Coordinator for the European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG).
Prior to moving to Belgium, she worked at the University of Tartu, Estonia, where she conducted research on EU affairs, human rights, and globalisation. Ana Lúcia held a Master’s degree in European Policies and Development from the University of Lisbon. She also completed postgraduate studies in International Management with a focus on the management of health systems at the University of Liverpool and was pursuing a PhD in International Health with the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (IHMT), Nova University of Lisbon.
Ana Lúcia is survived by her husband and three young children. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy goes out to Ana Lucia’s family during these difficult times.
