Dr Michelle Singh

Project Officer

Dr Michelle Singh joined the EDCTP (Africa Office) as a Project Officer in 2015. She holds a Masters in Biomedical Science (2003), Doctorate in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (2010) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, and a Masters in Global Bioethics (2022) from Anáhuac University. She has prior experience from the South African Medical Research Council and the University of KwaZulu-Natal where she managed maternal and child health research studies and clinical trials, with a strong focus on prevention of perinatal HIV transmission. Since joining EDCTP, her portfolio has included oversight of the EDCTP-AREF Preparatory Fellowship calls, EDCTP Recognition prizes, and relationship management with the African participating member states. She is a published Springer Book author and co-author of the TRUST code ~ A Global Code of Conduct for Equitable Research Partnerships. Since 2021, Michelle has represented EDCTP as a partner in the EU-funded PREPARED research ethics and integrity consortium, which is designing a framework to accelerate research during pandemics. Here she leads the funder & policymaker platforms and contributes to the development of ethics tools and training modules. Michelle is a registered member of the Health Professionals Council of South Africa and the Africa Bioethics Network. Her interests include promoting equitable research partnerships, bioethics and global health.
